Tom Hussey, inspired by grandfather George T. Miller, began painting in oils at age twelve. Forty years later he has not lost enthusiasm for putting paint on canvas.
Hussey opened his Auburn studio in 1998 and has since completed hundreds of landscapes. His favorite subjects include the hills and streams of Central New York and the beaches and harbors of the Atlantic Coast.
The artist cites the work of French painter Jean Baptiste Camille Corot and American Winslow Homer among his primary influences. His favorite aspect of life in the Finger Lakes is the richness of terrain and atmospheric conditions, of which he frequently enjoys painting on location.
The Auburn painter finds Central New York a landscape painter's paradise. “In addition to inspiring local subject material, I also get a chance to see great exhibits by my favorite painters at museums throughout New York and Pennsylvania,” he reflects. Exhibiting at summer festivals throughout the Northeast keeps the artist in touch with a large market, as well as a community of fellow artists. |
